How to add a custom indicator to Quantower
A third-party indicator for Quantower is a folder with a .dll inside. Where it goes, and the handful of things that stop it from showing up.
Quantower loads third-party indicators from its own settings folder when it starts. The steps below use OrderVane as the example, but the folder, the restart and the list are the same for any indicator that ships as a DLL.
1. Find the Indicators folder
Quantower loads custom indicators from Settings\Scripts\Indicators inside its install folder. On a standard install that is:
C:\Quantower\Settings\Scripts\IndicatorsBroker-branded editions of Quantower can sit in a folder of their own (for example C:\AMP Quantower). If yours is not at the path above, look for the Quantower folder that contains Settings\Scripts\Indicators. If the Indicators folder does not exist yet, create it.
2. Close Quantower completely
Quantower loads indicator files into memory when it starts and holds them. A file copied while it is running is not picked up, and a file replaced while it is running changes nothing until the next start. Quit the application, not only the chart window.
3. Copy the folder, not just the file
Keep each indicator in its own subfolder. For OrderVane Lite that is:
...\Settings\Scripts\Indicators\OrderVane_Lite\OrderVane_Lite.dllWindows marks files downloaded from the internet as "blocked". That mark does not stop Quantower from loading the indicator.
4. Start Quantower and add it to a chart
Right-click the chart → Add indicator (or click the indicators icon on the toolbar). Custom indicators are listed under Custom, or type the indicator's name in the search box.
OrderVane then asks for its license key in its own settings: right-click the OrderVane name on the chart → Settings → License → License key.
When it does not show up
| Symptom | What to check |

| It is not in the indicator list | The DLL sits in its own subfolder directly under Indicators, and Quantower was quit completely and started again. |
| "Can't restore indicator", or it vanishes after a restart | Make sure the DLL was replaced, not duplicated, and that Quantower was fully restarted. If it persists, remove the indicator, add it again, and save your workspace. |
| Your antivirus flags or removes the DLL | New, unsigned DLLs are sometimes flagged as a false positive. Restore it from quarantine and add an exception for its folder. |
| You updated it, but the old version still runs | The file was replaced while Quantower was running. Quit Quantower completely and start it again. |
Updating and removing
- Update: quit Quantower, replace the indicator's folder, start Quantower. Quantower keeps indicator settings in your workspace, not in the DLL, and an OrderVane update keeps them. See Update OrderVane.
- Remove: take it off your charts, quit Quantower, delete its folder, and start Quantower again.
