OrderVane

Getting started with OrderVane

The short version of the install guide, plus the three things new users ask most: nothing is showing, my PC feels slower, and I already use a bubble or footprint tool.

The full install guide is in your download, next to the indicator. This page is the short version, and the one to come back to during a trial.

The first five minutes

  1. Close Quantower, then copy the OrderVane_Lite or OrderVane_Pro folder from the download into <Quantower>\Settings\Scripts\Indicators\. Quantower only picks up new indicators when it starts.
  2. Start Quantower, open a chart, right-click it → Add indicator, and type "OrderVane".
  3. Paste your key. Right-click the OrderVane name on the chart → Settings → License → License key. The first activation needs an internet connection.
  4. Check the badge. The name on the chart starts with OrderVane Lite or OrderVane Pro, followed by the version.
  5. Pick your market. Click the small button on the left edge of the chart to open the quick panel. Symbol preset writes starting thresholds for CL, ES, NQ, GC, RTY or 6E in one click.

On a live market you should see bubbles for large prints, diamonds for aggression clusters, and horizontal bars where size traded into a price that did not move. With Pro, zoom in until the footprint cells appear inside the bars.

When nothing shows

What you seeWhat to check
OrderVane is not in the indicator listThe folder has to sit directly in ...\Scripts\Indicators\. Quit Quantower completely and start it again.
A watermark, and no markersEnter the key in Settings → License, and check the internet connection for the first activation.
No markers at allThe instrument needs trade (time & sales) data. Installed over a weekend? Most brokers return no tick history outside market hours, so the chart fills in once the next session starts.
Pro: no cells inside the barsZoom in until the bars are wide enough (the threshold is Footprint cluster min bar width in Settings), and make sure Footprint cells is on in the quick panel.
Everything fills in slowly after opening a chartQuantower is calculating volume analysis for every loaded bar. Load fewer days on that chart.
Nothing happens when you click AddThe chart shows the reason in one line. If it mentions the Quantower version, update Quantower; otherwise send us that line.
"Activation limit reached"The key is already active on two computers. Use Release license from this PC on one of them.

If your PC feels slower

OrderVane computes everything on your machine, from the tape and from Quantower's own volume data. Most of the work is history: how much of it is fetched and scanned when a chart opens, and how much is filled in afterwards in the background. These settings cut that work. Only the last one removes anything from the chart.

SettingDefaultLighter
History hours (broker fetch)10024
Historical tick lookback (h)62
Deep tick backfill (Pro)OnOff — older bars may fill in less far back
Tick backfill hours (Pro)7224
Bar stats grid enabled (Pro)OnOff, if you do not use the per-bar grid

The largest single cost is the number of days loaded on the chart, because Quantower calculates volume analysis for every loaded bar. If a chart still feels heavy after these changes, write to hello@ordervane.com with the instrument, the timeframe and the number of days loaded. That is enough for us to reproduce it.

Running it next to tools you already use

During a trial

The trial runs for 14 days. Three days before it ends, the chart shows how many days are left. When it ends, the chart shows a notice and the markers switch off. If you buy the edition you tried, paste the new key into the same License key field. There is nothing to reinstall.

Questions during the trial: reply to any of our emails, or write to hello@ordervane.com.

OrderVane draws this on your Quantower charts.
