Documentation
Concept pages and reference for reading order flow on Quantower — what each mark means, and how OrderVane draws it.
These pages explain what you are looking at. They describe what the chart shows, not what the market will do next.
Start here
- Getting started with OrderVane The first five minutes, what to check when nothing shows, how to cut the background work on your PC, and how to run it next to the tools you already use.
- How to add a custom indicator to Quantower The Indicators folder, the folder layout that works, why Quantower has to restart, and what to check when an indicator does not appear.
- What Quantower gives you free The cluster chart, the bar statistics grid, Power Trades and the bundled indicator pack that is not in the help docs — checked against an installed build. Read this before buying any order flow add-on, including ours.
- How to set up a footprint chart in Quantower The built-in Cluster chart: turning it on, bid × ask, delta and volume views, custom step, filtered volume, and what to check when it fills in slowly.
- Quantower DOM Trader and OrderVane DOM What the built-in DOM Trader already shows, read from its own settings in an installed build, what OrderVane DOM is built around, and where the two overlap.
- Power Trades settings Every setting of Quantower's built-in Power Trades — total volume, time interval, basis ratio, the filters and the display — with its default, read from an installed build.
- Changelog What changed and when — shipped updates in plain language, plus what is in final testing for the next package.
The bar
- How to read a footprint bar Bid and ask sides, row grouping, imbalance, POC and value area — and what changes as you zoom out.
Levels
Prices that stay on the chart after the bar that made them has passed.
- Volume shelf A price that took an unusual share of the volume around it — measured against three windows at once, and identical on every timeframe.
- Session levels The previous session's VAH, VAL and POC extended across today, with a touch band and an absorption mark.
- Reading the previous session's value area edges A five-minute routine for price coming back to the previous session's VAH or VAL — measure the first touch so the second can be compared with it.
- Naked POC A POC price has not traded back to. The definition, the three names for it, and exactly when the line stops.
- Zero print A row where one side printed nothing at all — and how it differs from a single print and an unfinished auction.
- Unfinished auction A bar high or low where both sides were still trading when the bar closed — and how an auction normally ends.
- Stacked imbalance zones Consecutive one-sided rows form a band. What breaks it, and how the drawing tells you the zone's state.
The tape and the book
- Big trade markers Bubbles, clusters and absorption bars — three shapes for three different facts about aggression.
- Absorption Size that traded into a price which did not move. What separates it from exhaustion, and the three conditions a mark needs.
- Exhaustion Aggression running out on its own. Why it is harder to observe than absorption, and what OrderVane deliberately does not mark.
- Bid/ask walls Large resting orders in the book. The one marker that describes size which has not traded yet.
Measuring across bars
- Speed of tape A row in the statistics grid and a speed histogram by price inside a range-profile box.
- Per-bar statistics grid One column per bar, aligned with the chart. Which rows exist, how heat colouring is scaled, and why empty cells print a dash.
- Range profile Drag a box over any stretch and profile exactly that range, immediately. Independent boxes and per-side sources.

What OrderVane is
OrderVane is an indicator for the Quantower platform. It marks large trades, absorption and order-flow structure on your existing charts. It does not place orders and it does not emit buy or sell signals — you keep the decisions.
